If this is you
You searched for two adults and three children. A room came back, and its page says “sleeps 5” or “Max occupancy 5”. Then you read the bed line: two queen beds. Four people have a bed. Who is the fifth, and where?
What you want is simple: a named bed for every person, backed by the room's own record or by the hotel in writing, before the money moves.
What the room pages list, room by room
These are the exact rooms from pages on this site. “Not on the page” means the page we read does not say; it does not mean the room lacks it. The pages state the beds and limits, not who sleeps where.

Four patterns in those records
- More places than people. The two-bedroom suites list a king bed, queen beds and sofa bed(s) at a published max of 8 (Royale Parc) or 10 (JW Marriott). Five fit under the limit and the beds are listed; who sleeps where is still your plan.
- Two beds plus a sofa bed, max exactly 5. At Residence Inn ONQQ and the Studio STQQ, Orlando Universal Blvd and Oakbrook Terrace's 2 Double 1 Bedroom Suite the limit is 5 and the listed beds are two queens or two doubles plus a sofa bed. Beyond the two beds, the lists name only the sofa bed. Whether the hotel assigns the sofa bed to a fifth guest is not stated. At Residence Inn the card also says rollaway beds are not permitted, so the card gives no second place for a fifth person.
- Two beds, max 4. Rosen's room page says the fifth person requires a rollaway, which carries a charge. At Westin Times Square the two-queen Grand Deluxe Family Room is max 4 with rollaways not permitted, so the card lists no place for a fifth guest; every Westin type we read is max 3 or 4 (see the connecting-rooms guide).
- A king and a queen in two bedrooms, plus a sofa bed. Oakbrook Terrace's 1 King 1 Queen 2 Bedroom Suite is max 5 and lists one bed in each of two bedrooms plus a sofa bed. That is a different layout from the two-beds-in-one-room rooms above; the page does not say who would use the sofa bed.
For the sofa-bed-versus-rollaway difference in words, see sofa bed vs rollaway. For how the two-queen rule works, see two queen beds and a fifth guest.
What these pages do not tell you
- Whether a rollaway or crib adds to the maximum. Marriott's cards list “Maximum occupancy” and “Rollaway beds permitted” on separate lines, and the pages we read do not say whether the rollaway is on top of the number or inside it.
- Sofa bed size and comfort. The cards say “sofa bed” and, at Staybridge Universal, “single sofa bed”. Dimensions are not on the page.
- Who may sleep on it. Not on the pages we read: we searched the page text we had saved (not the live pages) for “weight”, “pound”, “lbs” and “age limit” and found no sofa-bed or rollaway limit.
- The rollaway and crib lines for most IHG hotels. For the Staybridge, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, Candlewood and Holiday Inn Express pages the IHG room details we read do not carry a rollaway or crib line, so ask.
Seven steps before you pay
- Copy the exact room name from the page you will book.
- Read the published maximum for that name, not for the hotel.
- Count the fixed beds in the bed line (queens, doubles, king, bunks).
- Find what the fifth person uses: a bed already listed, a sofa bed, or a rollaway.
- If it is a rollaway, check the rollaway line for that room type. Marriott's cards differ by type: permitted at Westin's King rooms, not permitted at its two-bed rooms and at Residence Inn ONQQ.
- Decide who sleeps there. If it is a sofa bed, decide who accepts it for every night of the stay.
- Where the page is silent, ask in writing using the script below, and keep the reply.

Subject: Sleeping plan for [room name] on [dates] Hi, I'm hoping to book the [exact room name] at [hotel] for [dates], for 2 adults and 3 children (ages [__], [__], [__]). Could you confirm: 1. Where would the fifth person sleep in this exact room? 2. If a sofa bed: what size is it, and is there any age or weight limit? 3. If a rollaway: is one permitted in this exact room type, is it confirmed for every night, and can you note it on the reservation? 4. Does a rollaway or crib count toward the room's maximum? Could you reply by email so I have it in writing? Thanks, [your name]

Quick answers
If a room says it sleeps 5, does it have five beds?
No. The Residence Inn One Bedroom 2 Queen Suite (ONQQ) has a published maximum of 5 with three listed sleeping places: two queen beds and a sofa bed (Marriott room card, read October 16, 2026).
Can I add a rollaway to any room?
No. Marriott's room lines differ by room type: at the Westin Times Square the King rooms permit one rollaway and the two-bed rooms do not; the Residence Inn ONQQ card says rollaway beds are not permitted (all read October 16, 2026).
Does the maximum occupancy include a rollaway or a crib?
The pages we read do not say (see “What these pages do not tell you”). Ask the hotel in writing.
What if the fifth person is a teenager and the plan is a sofa bed?
The pages we read give no sofa bed dimensions or age or weight limit. Ask the hotel for the size, and if the answer is not good enough, choose a room whose listed beds or bedrooms leave a separate place.
