Affiliate disclosure

Which links can be affiliate links

Only links to these companies, each through its own affiliate programme: IHG hotel websites (for example Staybridge Suites), Booking.com, Vrbo, Viator, Discover Cars and Squaremouth. We have not joined any of these programmes yet, so no link is an affiliate link today; the Vrbo, Viator, Discover Cars and Squaremouth links currently go to each company's own home page, and none of them is marked as an affiliate link. Links to any other hotel, brand or booking site (Marriott, Hyatt, Best Western, independent hotels) are ordinary links and never earn us anything. When a link is an affiliate link it carries a tracking code, is marked rel="sponsored", and the sentence "This is an affiliate link" appears next to it. If you book through one, we may earn a commission from the seller at no added cost to you.

Where these links appear

• Hotel pages: a short note on asking the hotel about two rooms (no new external links) and, on nine resort-type pages, a link to the Vrbo home page for whole vacation rentals.
• Orlando, Anaheim and Las Vegas pages: a short block linking the Viator and Discover Cars home pages. We do not show prices, have not reviewed either site and have not checked ticket or rental terms.
• The travel insurance checklist: a link to the Squaremouth home page. We have not reviewed Squaremouth, do not recommend any policy and do not sell insurance.

What does not change

• Recommendations follow the room evidence on each page, not the commission rate.
• If a room cannot be confirmed we say so, even when it would be commissionable.
• Links to hotels' own pages stay available beside booking-site links.
